/oo' nee dwah/ unidroit, if you please
While in Rome, we studied and had classes at Unidroit, the institute for the unification of private law. My professor in Rome named the Dean at Willamette by first name (Dean Symeonides is a noted scholar in the area of International Private Law). That was an impressive nod to my school.
The building was given to Unidroit in 1928(?) and has been used since to propose model laws and treaties to simply, by unifying, private international law. Think of laws like the Uniform Commercial Code or the Convention for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). It was an honor to be lectured by the scholars of this establishment on Comparative Law. On Thursday afternoon, I was wondering if I chould have chosen the CISG class instead of the Enviro class. This couch was popular for relaxing on, because of the awesome art behind it.
This was one of our classrooms. The chairs kind of made it hard to take notes, but considering where we were, I got over it.
Everyone who has opposed the Unidroit, loses their heads at some point, and then is honored for it. Actually, these statues are in the court yard.

Here is my roomate in Rome, Don E., looking quite studious. A better photo and more about Don will follow in subsequent posts.
Another classroom for us to use. The first day, we did not use this room, it had some diplomatic looking hearing taking place.
Last class at Unidroit, we argued our cases outside as the rain finally let up. Here is the opposing team.
The panel of judges prefer my picture taking over oral arguments.
The better side arguing their case.
Group shot...
An impassioned plea.
This was down the street from Unidroit, an example of the unification of city employees. Here, as I once photographed in Portland, OR, it takes at least 7 city workers to watch one other doing the work. Sorry the shot has no zoom...I did not want to make it too obvious I was shooting these guys. Don and I did not want an international incident, nor a beating in italian.
